The Art of Death

Funerary Medallion of Thomas de Marchant & his wife 1728

This part of our site will eventually become the largest source of Anthropomorphic Death imagery available on the web today, with a focus on those images that may be a bit more obscure, or lesser known than the classical "Danse Macabre" series. I have been an avid collector of images that portray Death in personification  for as long as I can remember. A few of these images were created especially for us and you won't find them anywhere else.  This is just a sampling of some of the images I have laying around here and there.  Many of the images  feature a "Death & The Maiden" theme, which has been, and continues to be a very popular theme for artists world-wide. I'm sorry about the quality of some of the images, which, in certain cases, are yellowed with age, 4th generation copies and such. We have a scrap-book here featuring images of Death that either I have collected, or have been sent to me from all over the world. Some of these come from that very dog-eared compilation. If you have something that you feel would fit onto this page, please send it along and I'll be happy to consider it for addition!. If you see any images here that aren't attributed and you know who the artist might be, please let me know. Please respect any image that is copyright protected, and if we've inadvertantly overstepped anyone's copyright, please let us know. Otherwise, if you'd like to use these for your own purposes, please save them to your own hard-drive, do not usurp our bandwidth, and a link back would be much appreciated! We will be adding to this part of our site on a regular basis, so please check back often! You can navigate by clicking on the page progressive numbers at the foot of each page, or at any time hit the "back" button to bring you here. I hope that these wet your appetite for more! Please give them time to fully load.
